Things That Have Not Changed

“Things sure have changed since I was a child.” This is a statement that I have heard many people make as they begin reminiscing, or discussing the matters of the world at the present time. For most of my life I can remember my dad telling stories of how he would walk to school uphill both ways (or so he says, ha ha), he would talk about how a dime would buy more than a dollar will now, how everyone got along with everyone and there was no crime. When people talk about how things are today most people discuss how terrible this world is and how everything has changed but we need to understand that they are some things that still remain the same.
One thing that has not changed is that God is still in control! In the beginning God controlled the universe as He controlled the order in which things were created and the order in which they would operate from that time forth. God created the heavens and the earth, the sun and the moon, the seasons and times, and from the time He created them until the time that He determines that they shall no longer exist, God is in control. God is still in control of mankind. He created man in His image and breathed the breath of life into man. God gave us His Word in order to instruct us how we should live, and sent us His Son in order that we may live eternally with Him. Although mankind may not accept this fact, God is still in control!
Another thing that has not changed is that the Bible is still the all inspired Word of God given to us for our benefit! Every Scripture is given to us to instruct us in righteousness and given to us for our learning. The Bible can teach us how God operates, how He has dealt with man in the past, what happens to those that will not obey His Word, and what will happen to everyone in the future. God gave his Word to us in order that we be fully prepared for the great day that is coming when man will be judged, and because God is a just and loving God He would not have us to be ignorant of what is to come.
Something else that has not changed is the undeniable fact that everyone will die. It’s appointed unto every man that death will come (Hebrews 9:27). Moses spoke of man’s life and stated that some may reach their “three score and ten years” but wisely stated that we should number our days and apply our hearts to wisdom (Psalm 90:10-12). Methuselah lived 969 years and is the “oldest man to ever live” but he was also the oldest man to ever die (Gen. 5:27). Just as sure as each day passes, so is the days of our lives and this fact has never changed.
Many things have changed but God is still God, the Bible is still the Word that instructs us in righteousness, and death will come. Take what time we have on this earth to apply our hearts to the teaching of God’s Word and be prepared for the Day of Judgment.
